banana foster oats (!!)

Okay, I'll be honest.... I've never actually had banana's foster. In fact, I'm not quite sure I know what it is. For some reason that name just seemed to be appropriate for Friday Morning's bowl of love.

I know it doesn't look like anything special, but as we all know, looks can be deceiving:
http://masterworks.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/susan-boyle.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3154/2967988468_64448208f8.jpg

what took this bowl from good to 'gasm was a little trick I learned from this hot Taydor Tot.

I caramelized the bananas, which sounds a lot more difficult than it actually was. Simply stated, I tossed them in a saucepan with a little cinnamon and sugar and voila! They were all gooey and banana-ey and perfie. 'Twas a little extra work but totally worth the effort. It definitely tasted like banana's foster (or at least I imagine what banana's foster would taste like) Thanks Tay!

After breakfast I hoped in to my cutest outfit and hit the town to be super productive. Except I didn't. Truth be told, I stayed in my PJ's all day and did chores around the house which was actually serious business. After cleaning out the cabinets, doing the laundry, dusting, and rearranging my closet (p.s. I've changed my name to Jenny-rella) I was spent. Cinderella must have been in great shape.

It took Gingie for.ev.er to get home so I munched on some dinner while waiting for his arrival.

sundried tomato wrap with tomato paste, boca crumbles, jalepeno cheese and mustard + fiber gourmet lite cheese snacks and corn

this dinner was almost as random as these two:
http://www.ivstatic.com/files/et/imagecache/636/files/slides/Khloe-Kardashian-Lamar-Odom_0.JPG
Khloe and Lamar. Sure, why not?

But I don't care because I was craving it and the tortilla/quesadilla/whatever you want to call it tasted like a Mickey D's cheeseburger

an incredibly aesthetically pleasuring cheeseburger, for that matter

Quick sidetrack: While we're on the topic of my fiber gourmet lite cheese snacks now is just as good a time as any to plug a mini review:

Simply stated, if you like cheeze itz - you'll love these. I was a little irked out at first. 50 calories for the entire bag? There has to be something funky going on here. But alas, they were just really tasty and light and not too salty. The ingredient list was slightly, unfamiliar, but that's to be expected. They are perfect as a great light snack or accompaniment to a meal...and each mini bag packs 8g of fiber. Bueno!

Thanks so much again Fiber Gourmet company for bringing cheeze itz back in to my life. 'Tis been far too long!

Back to originally scheduled blogging...

After I gobbled up my dinner Gingie finally arrived at my house and was greeted by welcome home cheeseburger breath. Lucky guy, lucky guy. We were both pretty tired so opted to veg out on the couch and watch movies. Anyone want to take a stab at which movie we watched? If I told you Mean Girls would you believe me? Well, believe it. I'm sure it was just because Gingie was feeling super sweet and generous in allowing me to watch such a chick flick and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with Lindsey Lohan's ta ta's in this movie wink Ah well, he's only human.

Then we smooched and said goodnight and now I get to see him again today! Have I mentioned how much I love when he's home? biggrin

Questions:
  1. What the heck is banana's foster? Help a sister out!
  2. What's your favorite dessert? If banana's foster tastes anything like aforementioned bowl of oats, I'd have to say that quite possibly could be mine
  3. What's your most memorable McDonalds /Burger King happy meal toy? (c'mon, we all had one) mine was definitely either my hedgehog beanie baby or polly pocket. I actually still have them in my room. No shame, no shame at all. Okay, maybe a little shame.
Have a very merry Saturday, all!

OMG thats so funny I actually had bananas foster last night at a wedding!!!
Let me just tell you it is TO...DIE...FOR!

typically what it is is bananas, dark brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and rum all sauteed together. Then it usually gets served over vanilla ice scream.( you could obviously put it on anything you can think of though)
Don't worry you don't taste the rum at all it gets burnt off.
Anyways!! Its a hot gooey mess that tastes like pure heaven

Bananas foster can also be lit on fire when serving (because of the rum)--it's so fun!

1-What the heck is banana's foster?
I didn't know until I read other's comments, lol!
And I never had banana foster too, so you're not alone. Beside, I even never had Pumpkin pie or Lemon Meringue pie...so you're not the worst, lol.
2-What's your favorite dessert?
I don't know! Tiramisu, Ooey Gooey Brownie, Cinnamon rolls...I really don't know. It's like choosing between delicious chocolate and yummy chocolate. ;)
3-What's your most memorable McDonalds /Burger King happy meal toy?
I still remember...I had a Lugia! (From Pokemon!)

Loved this post :)

I've never had banana foster either, but if it's anything like your breakfast than I am going to go out of my way to find a vegan version, it that is at all possible. My favorite dessert would be a gooey brownie topped with soy ice cream and hot fudge. I don't remember the last time I actually had said dessert, but it's definitely something I've been craving recently.

My favorite kid's meals toys were always ones I could use. I had a really sweet pen that had wheels on it and could zoom around, and I had a Rugrats watch once that I wore all the time. Those things were just so awesome!

I was all about those little beanie babies in my happy meals...they were ALL the rage when I was a tot. ;)

Fav. dessert...ice-cream has yet to fail me. :D

Have a great Saturday with Ginge!!!

2. My favorite dessert is BROWNIES!! Especially when they are warm and gooey.
3. I remember when McDonald's had mini Barbie dolls and Cabbage Patch Kids in their Happy Meals. I absolutley HAD to have them.

Enjoy your day with Ginge!!

LOL I don't know either! But whatever it is, your oats sure look yummy!!

I totally watched Mean Girls last night, too. I've probably seen it over 20 times, and my poor, cooperative husband puts up with me and my constant quoting it. I does help that Lindsey Lohan looks like an actual human being (a hot one, at that) in that move - rather than a cracked out skeleton.

1.I don't know what bananas foster is, I think it's on fire, though
2.Chocolate Cake
3.Plastic Aladdin cups - I had 3.

My love, I veganized bananas foster a month or so ago. Here you go, step by step
http://www.loveveggiesandyoga.com/2009/10/vegan-bananas-foster.html

It's basically bananas sauteed on the stovetop with brown sugar and rum, and then you light it on fire to burn off the alcohol and then serve the whole thing over ice cream. The syrup from the bananas is so delicious, decadent, and wonderful, it's like caramel-banana-sugary goodness. It's indescribable. Probably one of the top 5 best desserts on the planet.

Go to a nice restaurant and order it sometime. You will be in heaven.

OMG, I LOVE that breakfast!!! You have some massive skills my dear.

lol I watched Mean Girl's last night too! That movie has become a total classic in my book.

Enjoy your time with your man! :)

Happy Meal Toys??? Remember when McDonalds had mini beanie babies? Well, I always hated McDonalds (I was a Burger King fan as a kid), so I had my dad get a Happy Meal for his lunch EVERY DAY while they had those Beanie Babies just so I could collect them all. He obviously loves his daughter WAYYYYY too much. ;)

I think bananas foster usually involves a lot of booze- so you can set it on fire!
My favorite dessert... if made well, which it too often isn't... is probably bread pudding. But like, horribly decadent heart attack in a bowl real cream and butter and decadence bread pudding. Nothing healthy!
My fave McDonalds toys were the ones that shot things. Yknow, pull on the back of the batmobile and it threw bats at you. Or... something like that.

balancejoyanddelicias said...

I don't know what's banana foster either. but your creation looks and sounds delish~~~

2) It's really hard to choose my favourite dessert but maybe ice cream?! Or really fudgy brownies!

3) When I was a little kid I once celebrated my birthday at McDonald's and got an inflatable dinosaur so that'd be my most memorable toy. Unfortunately, though, it already looked a bit battered the next day ... haha ...
